Le Dran was very active as a surgeon and had wide experience in the military service. In this work, which deals with a wide variety of surgical situations, he shows that his skill and innovative approach to surgical problems were almost unique for his day. Much of the book deals with what we would now call minor surgery: abscesses, urinary tract obstructions, burns, compound fractures, gunshot wounds, anal fistulas, and hemorrhoids.
