For more information on this author or work, see number: 800
Astruc received much of his early education from his father, a Protestant pastor who later became an attorney. Extremely intelligent and well trained, Astruc received his master of arts degree from Montpellier at the age of sixteen and his doctorate only three years later. Astruc was a master teacher and his methodical and well-conceived lectures were easy to copy and reconstruct. As a result, many manuscripts of his lectures on physiology and pathology were circulated among the students at many European universities. However, the present work was prepared by Astruc from his lecture notes and, as a result of its popularity, was issued in a fourth edition in 1767.
