MARTIN MARTINEZ (1684-1734) Anatomia completa del hombre. En la Imprenta Real, por Don Francisco Rodriguez 1745 [34] 592 [8] pp., 23 plates (port.). 20.7 cm.
A native of Madrid, Martínez studied at Alcalá de Henares where he was especially interested in physics, chemistry, and anatomy. He became professor of anatomy at Seville, where he also served as chairman of the Royal Company of Physicians and was physician in ordinary to the King. Later in his career Martínez took a great interest in the improvement of medical education and played a major role in establishing an anatomical amphitheater in the general hospital at Madrid. Among Martínez' several works is this anatomy which was first published at Madrid in 1728. A comprehensive work, it became a popular text and appeared in a sixth edition in 1775. The present work is probably the second edition and its half title page depicts the anatomical theater at Madrid.
