Mead's scientific curiosity, combined with his great learning and wide range of interests, resulted in a variety of works, as shown by this volume. Included here are his writings on the plague, principles of public health and control of contagious disease, medical numismatics, and comparative anatomy, as well as several other subjects. The book also contains Mead's Harveian Oration delivered before the College of Physicians on October 18, 1723. Mead based his lecture on the history of Greek and Roman medicine with passing reference to the medieval schools of medicine.
