In the Preface to this work, prepared late in Cheyne's life, the author reveals his basic interpretation of and approach to philosophy. Viewing medicine as an integral part of philosophy, he felt it quite appropriate to address his remarks to the physician as well as to the lay public. In addition to the work on regimen, he has included five discourses on medicine, morals, and philosophy.
