FRANCIS FULLER (1670-1706) Medicina gymnastica: or, A treatise concerning the power of exercise, with respect to the animal oeconomy; and the great necessity of it in the cure of several distempers. R. Knaplock 1705 The 2d ed., with additions. 18 p., 284 p. 19 cm.
A medical practitioner and hypochondriac, Fuller cured himself of a case of dyspepsia that accompanied his hypochondriasis by exercise on horseback and emetics. This led him to write the present work which went through nine editions. Fuller mostly develops Syndenham’s suggestions for fresh air and exercise to remedy consumption and hypochondriasis further and shows limited knowledge of disease.
