Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 726

WILLIAM COWPER (1666-1709) Glandularum quarundam, nuper detectarum, ductuumque earum excretoriorum descriptio. Impensis S. Smith & B. Walford 1702 [2] 72 pp., 3 fold. plates. 20.2 cm.

For more information on this author or work, see number: 722

The present work is the first Latin translation of Cowper's "An account of two glands and their excretory ducts lately discover'd in human bodies" originally published in the Philosophical transactions in 1699. These two glands in the human penis are commonly known as Cowper's glands. However, Cowper does not deserve total credit for their discovery since they were described by the French surgeon, Jean Méry (1645-1722), as early as 1684.
