ANTONI PACCHIONI (1665-1726) De durae meningis fabrica & usu disquisitio anatomica. Typis D. A. Herculis 1701 [16] 139 pp., 5 plates (4 fold.). 16.2 cm.
Antonio Pacchioni, . . . friend and pupil of Malpighi, with whom he collaborated in the publication of the anatomical plates of Eustachius, was particularly concerned with the anatomy and function of the dura mater. According to him, it was to be regarded as a muscular tissue whose contractions served to push the nervous fluid toward the periphery. He described in the dura mater the small bodies that bear his name and the incisura of the tentorium cerebelli (Arturo Castiglioni, A history of medicine. New York, 1946. pp. 519-520).
