The fourth edition of Quincy's Dispensatory was published in 1722, the year of his death. Later editions, such as this one, were published with few changes under anonymous editorship until the "twelfth edition" in 1749 (a twelfth edition had also been published in 1742). The "twelfth edition" underwent a major revision in order to modernize the theory section of the book which had become outmoded.
