Best known as a writer of novels, including Robinson Crusoe, and as a political pamphleteer, Defoe is credited with writing more than 500 works during his career as a merchant, political activist, and author. An accomplished writer with a plain and direct style, in this monograph he satirizes many aspects of marriage and sexual ethics. The book was published anonymously, and Defoe's name does not appear in it.
