Heirs of Hippocrates

The Development of Medicine in a Catalogue of Historic Books

Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 698

JAMES HARVEY (fl. 1700) Praesagium medicum: or, The prognostick signs of acute diseases. Printed for G. Strahan 1720 2nd ed. xvi, vii-xxix, 216 pp. 17.8 cm.

Little is known of Harvey's life and work although it is clear that he was a practicing physician with great interest in symptomatology. Although the title page of this book states that it is a second edition, the work was first published in 1706 and another edition was published in 1713. Harvey carefully considers the symptoms caused by disorders in all parts of the body and cautions the physician to evaluate all physical signs before attempting to diagnose the patient's illness.
