[Alternate “Uniform” Title: Libellus isagogicus. Other Titles: Ad magisterium iuditiorum astrorum. Other authors: Joannes, Hispalensis (12th cent.) and Alten, Bartholomäus (fl. 1485-149)] The rare 3rd edition (1st Mantua 1473) of this classic scientific work by the recognized authority on Ptolmey’s Almagest. This work was originally translated by Hispalensis in 1144 with the Saxonia commentary added in 1331. The present work is edited by Bartholomaeus Alten. These early printed editions of Alchabitius’ “principle surviving treatise, a tenth century Arabic introduction to Astrology” are almost unprocurable. (Honeyman) Attractive large, & smaller, ornamental initials, white on black. Neat withdrawal stamp on aa2. A very few leaves have some contemporary marginalia & there are a few underlinings in faded ink. Lacking the preliminary blank and FF ii-iv. Despite these, a fine attractive copy of a difficult work to obtain.
