For more information on this author or work, see number: 612
This is the first part of Ruysch's ten part Thesaurus anatomicus (see No. 617) and contains seven excellent copperplates of specimens from his collection. The plates depict the fetus of an armadillo, the ovaries and fetus of a frog, different species of fish, and two plates of shells, all of which are done in Ruysch's characteristic style (see No. 614). A lengthy salutatory poem to the author by L. Coster precedes the text, which is printed in Latin and Dutch in parallel columns. The work first appeared in Thesaurus anatomicus (1701-1714) and was later reprinted in 1725 (see No. 616).
