MARTIN LISTER (1638?-1712) Exercitatio anatomica. Sumptibus Sam. Smith & Benj. Walford 1694 xi, 208 pp., 8 fold. plates. 17.5 cm.

Lister, at one time ordinary physician to Queen Anne, published a few medical works and edited a 1703 edition of Hippocrates' Aphorisms. His chief interest, however, was in zoology and he published several works in this field. The present work contains his essays on the anatomy of snails and slugs with eight folding plates depicting his studies. This work was followed by a companion volume in 1695 which treated various animals, birds, fish, and selected marine life.
