Ramazzini's physician grandson--Bartolomeo Ramazzini (fl. 1740)--has here assembled the corpus of his grandfather's lectures and publications. With the exception of De morbis artificum diatriba (see No. 592), his writings were chiefly only of contemporary interest. Besides De morbis artificum diatriba, the Opera contains many of his medical lectures, his works on epidemiology related to outbreaks of lathyrism, malaria, and cattle plague. In addition, his observations on the weather and, more importantly, his treatise on the motion of mercury in barometers is in the volume, as is a work on preserving the health of princes, which was very popular in his day. Included with his Opera is De barametro dissertationes duae by Jacobus Placentinus (fl. 1700) which relates to the work Ramazzini did with barometers.
