At the age of eighty, Ramazzini revised his important contribution to industrial medicine and saw it published only a year before his death. He rearranged the latter portion of the book, added many new case histories, and included a supplement of twelve new chapters on occupations he had not previously described. In addition to the supplement, Ramazzini also wrote a separate dissertation for this edition, perhaps to make the book more attractive to prospective buyers. The dissertation--De virginum vestalium valetudine tuenda--dealt with the ways in which nuns could preserve their health.
