First edition containing second editions (first, 1481) of the Liber ad Almansorem, Liber Divisionum, De aegritudinibus iuncturarum, De curis eburnea, De humana natura, De aere et aqua et regionibus, De pharmaciis, and Johannes Damascenus’ Aphorismi. Included in this edition of 1497, and not in the edition of 1481, are Rhazes’ Antidotarium, De preservatione ab egritudine lapidis, Introductorium medicinae, De proprietatibus membrorum, Maimonides’ Aphorismi, Avenzohar’s De curatione lapidis and two further tracts by Hippocrates, Prognosticatio secundum lunam and De insomniis. Liber ad Almansorem was finished towards the end of the ninth century. It contains important statements and observations in numerous medical fields including anatomy, surgery, gynaecology and obstetrics, cosmetics, rules of health and medicines for travelers, and has treatments for diseases from head to foot. The ninth book of this work, which deals with therapeutics, gained special acceptance in the Christian occident and was object of numerous commentaries. Rhazes’ De curis puerorum is the first entire treatise on diseases of children. His description of smallpox and measles, contained within the chapter on fevers, is the oldest description of variola and the masterpiece of Muslim medicine”- Sarton.
