For more information on this author or work, see number: 561

Among the many letters and works in this first edition of Redi's Opere are his Consultations, which described the case histories of about one hundred of his patients. They show him to be a thoughtful and capable physician who showed great concern for the welfare of his patients. He favored the simple, straightforward approach of Hippocrates and cautioned his patients about the dangers of using many remedies of the day because their effects were often worse than the malady from which the patient suffered. The Opere is well-illustrated and contains many plates depicting the objects he studied.
