This letter of Redi's concerning the invention of eyeglasses is rare and is not usually found as a separate work. Redi claims that glasses were not known to the ancient Jews, Arabs, Greeks, or Romans and he attributes their invention to a Friar Alessandro Spina of Pisa (d. 1313).
