GIOVANNI ONORATO CASTIGLIONE (d. 1679) Prospectus pharmaceuticus. Apud Joannem Baptistam Ferrarium 1668 Pt. I: [24] 438 pp.; Pt. II: [6] 94 (misnumbered 102) pp., fold. plate. 29.8 cm.
The authors, father and son, each physician to the Duke of Milan, were commissioned by the Milanese Senate to produce this extensive pharmacological compendium. Of simple format, with many recipes and formulas, it is a working pharmacopoeia. Of particular interest are the engraved title page illustrating the interior of a seventeenth-century apothecary shop and, at the end, a folding copperplate showing numerous figures of apothecary's vessels and chemical apparatus.
