RICHARD WHITLOCK (b. 1616-?) Zōotomia,, or,, Observations on the present manners of the English: :briefly anatomizing the living by the dead. Printed by Tho. Roycroft, and are to be sold by Humphrey Moseley, at the Princes Armes in St. Pauls Church-yard 1654 1st edition. [36], 568, [14] p. : ill. (metal cut). 15 cm.

Whitlock, who in later life became a minister in the Church of England, had a cynical view of most facets of English life in the 17th century. In this book he satirizes and reprimands quack physicians, women doctors and many other aspects of life and times under Charles II. The entire tone is that of mockery by one utterly fundamental in his interpretation of the Holy Word.
