Browne, a noted physician, was also one of the great English writers of the seventeenth century. He is perhaps best known for his popular and often translated Religio medici which expounds his personal religious philosophy and the tenets by which he lived. The present work, often called "Vulgar errors," is an unusual and interesting work in which Browne attacks falsely-held traditions, superstitions, and folklore relating to the nature of plants, animals, and man. Copy 1 has been extensively annotated by someone with an excellent classical education and scholarly background.
