The very first criticism of Sir Thomas Browne’s famous work; Digby had been given an early copy of the unauthorized first edition by the Earl of Dorset. When Browne heard of the impending publication of Digby’s Roman Catholic observations, he urged that they be withdrawn, but the little book had already been set in type.
