JAMES PRIMEROSE (1580-1659) De vulgi erroribus in medicina libri IV. Ex officina Arnoldi Leers 1658 [20] 561 pp. 12.6 cm.
Primerose, though of Scottish parentage, was born and educated in France. He went to England, where he became a Fellow of the College of Physicians of London, William Harvey having been on his examining board. In 1630 Primerose issued a violent attack on Harvey's teaching on the circulation of the blood (see No. 417). The present book, first published in London in 1683, is a curious work on a variety of topics, including the choice of physicians and nurses, on taking mercury, on tobacco and opium, and the falsity of astrology and almanac prognosticators, as well as a continued attack on Harvey.
