First published in 1649, this work was considered the best anatomical textbook of its time. Riolan added greatly to anatomical knowledge, and his textbook was widely used for many years, being translated into several languages. The twenty-four plates are taken from the Syntagma anatomicum, an anatomical manual by Johann Vesling (see No. 476).
