For more information on this author or work, see number: 416

This work, written by John William Ogle (1824-1905) and delivered on June 25, 1880, was considered by Sir William Osler as one of six books that could be consulted for a sound explanation of Harvey's ideas on circulation. Ogle, physician to Saint George's Hospital for many years, held many important offices at the Royal College of Physicians and also delivered the Croonian Lectures in 1869. The published oration was greatly expanded because Ogle's many long footnotes were added to the text.
