S. Weir Mitchell (see No. 1956 ff.) has here published a series of twelve letters from Harvey to Basil, Lord Feilding, covering the period from June through September 1636. The letters, which describe Harvey's experiences, were written to Feilding, Ambassador at Venice, as Harvey traveled through Germany. Although the letters were published a year earlier by the Royal Historical Manuscript Commission, Mitchell also wanted to publish them so that they would receive wide dissemination among physicians. He was successful in receiving permission to publish them through the auspices of Sir William Osler (see No. 2120 ff.). A bibliography of Harvey's works by Charles Perry Fisher (b. 1857), Librarian of the College of Physicians, is also included in the book.
