This work was the first translation of De motu cordis into French. The translator, Charles R. Richet (1850-1935), also includes a long introduction in which he gives an historical review of the development of man's knowledge of circulation up to Harvey's time. Richet later received the Nobel prize for his work in anaphylaxis.
