Burton's work met with great popularity and it went through five editions during his lifetime. Three more editions were published during the seventeenth century and then the book nearly passed from the scene during the eighteenth century. It regained its popularity during the nineteenth century and forty-one editions and reissues were published during that period. This edition features a frontispiece as well as a reproduction of the title page from the sixth edition of 1652.
