Born into nobility, Gohorry was destined to study law and be a diplomat. However, his interests in alchemy and botany led him to eventually create and maintain a private academy called Lycium Philosophal San Marcelli. .He wrote a variety of books and translated the work of Niccolo Machiavelli into French. This work is a defense of ancient philosophy and medicine, written in response to Alexandre de la Tourrette’s treatise on potable gold.
