Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 35.5

EMPIRICUS MARCELLUS (fl. 400) Marcelli uiri illustris, De medicamentis empiricis, physicis, ac rationalibus liber. In officina Frobeniana per Hieronymum Frobenium et Nicolaum Episcopium 1531 252, [12], 178, [8] p. 32 cm.

This is the Froben edition of Marcellus, the 4th c. personal physician to the Emperor Theodosius, along with selected works of Galen in Latin. The Marcellus “Medicamentus Empiricusis included by both Aldus and Estienne in their “Medicis Antiquis.” The Galen works included here have to do with respiration and reproduction. This is apparently the first time these works were printed together. Galen’s "libri nouem" (p. [1]-178 (2nd group)) are divided into 2 parts, each with its own special t.p. The 1st part contains De causis respirationis liber I, De utilitate respirationis liber I, and De difficultate respirationis libri III. The 2nd part contains De uteri dissectione liber I, De foetus formatione liber I, and De semine libri II. [Cornarius, Janus (translator)]
