GEORGE FREDERICK ROWBOTHAM (fl. 1940) Acute injuries of the head. Williams and Wilkins 1942 xii, 288 pp., 124 illus. (12 col.). 24.3 cm.
The present work is the first authoritative work on head injuries to be published by a British neurosurgeon, and is partially based on the author's war-time experience. Although there have been many improvements in surgical instrumentation since this book was first published, the pathology of head injuries, their treatment, and sequelae have changed very little. It is these basic fundamentals that Rowbotham thoroughly explores in the book. The work is greatly enhanced by the many illustrations, which are one of its outstanding features. The book is dedicated to Sir Geoffrey Jefferson (1886-1961), the dean of neurosurgeons in Britain during his time, and the Foreword is by Norman McOmish Dott (1897-1939), the Scottish neurosurgeon well known for both his clinical and investigative work.
