Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 2308

FAXTON EUGENE GARDNER (b. 1878) Iconograms; a collection of colored plates illustrating interesting surgical conditions. Rebman Company [1913] xi, 252 [4] pp., 100 col. plates. 27 cm.

Gardner, lecturer in the New York Polyclinic Medical School, discusses the diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of diseases such as tumors, deformities, infectious diseases, congenital malformations, scars, fistulae, vascular and lymphatic lesions, gangrenes, and burns. He elected to illustrate his work with a remarkable set of 100 colored plates taken from Philipp Bockenheimer's (b. 1875) Atlas chirurgischer Krankheitsbilder (Berlin, 1907). Bockenheimer was professor of surgery at Berlin and his Atlas became very popular and was translated into French, Italian, Russian, Spanish, and English. An English translation was published at New York in 1908 as Atlas of clinical surgery. A total of 150 surgical pathological conditions are vividly shown in these life-like colored illustrations.
