In Jungian psychology, the personality is referred to as the psyche. It is made up of three components: the conscious ego, the personal unconscious and its complexes, and the collective unconscious and its archetypes. Many of Jung's major works were related to the unconscious processes and deal with the deepest layers of the psyche. Unlike Freud (see No. 2176 ff.), he believed that there was some mechanism of cooperation between the rational conscious and the irrational unconscious. In the present work, Jung is concerned with and explores many aspects of the relationships between the id and the different levels of the unconscious.
