RUDOLF MAGNUS (1873-1927) Körperstellung. J. Springer 1924 xiii, 740 pp., illus. 22.9 cm.
Magnus, a German, was a gifted pupil and co-worker of Sir Charles Sherrington (see No. 2198) at Liverpool. Later at the University of Utrecht, where he was professor of pharmacology, he became one of the most productive neurophysiologists of the first quarter of the twentieth century. In this monumental work on body posture, Magnus summarizes his extensive observations and experiments on the function of the otolithic organs, the nature of postural and neck reflexes, and the balancing reactions of the tonic labyrinthine reflexes.
