ANDRES DE LAGUNA (1499-1559) Methodus cognoscendi, extirpandique excrescentes in uesicae collo carunculas. Apud Valerium et Aloysium Doricos 1551 First edition. 24 leaves. 15 cm.

For more information on this author or work, see number: 227

A very rare first edition of this little treatise, written during his stay at Rome by the Spanish “Galen” in which he describes a method of excising vesical caruncles. Laguna was among the very first to suggest this method. Laguna, a native of Segovia, was one of the most colorful and individualistic of the pre-Vesalian anatomists. He studied in Salamanca and Paris, where he met Vesalius, Erasmus, Ignatius Loyola and Vives. He visited London and the Low Countries, practiced at Metz (Lorraine) and at Rome, and spent his last years in Segovia.
