Rolleston delivered this 272nd Harveian Oration to the Royal College of Physicians of London on October 18, 1928. It was the tercentenary year of the publication of Harvey's De motu cordis (see No. 416) and Rolleston elected to examine the progress made in the study of cardiovascular diseases since the day of Harvey. The work covers anatomical observations, unaided clinical observations, examination of patients with the aid of instruments, and physiological and pathological experiments.
