WILLIAM CARNEGIE BROWN (1859-1913) Amoebic or tropical dysentery. J. Bale 1910 viii, 271 pp., illus., plate. 20.9 cm.

Brown was a medical practitioner in Penang from 1885 to 1904, where he was able to observe firsthand the nature and variety of tropical diseases. After his return to England, he became a driving force in the formation of the Society for the Study of Tropical Diseases. This pioneer work on amoebic dysentery, together with an earlier book on sprue, constitute Brown's chief contributions to the literature of tropical medicine.
