The Development of Medicine in a Catalogue of Historic Books

Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 2187

Gilles de la Tourette was a pupil of Charcot (see No. 1918) and later chief of neurology at the Salpêtrière. He is probably best known for his description of the saltatory spasm or "impulsive tic" and his treatise on hysteria. This work is on the medico-legal aspects of hypnotism, magnetism, and spiritualism which, at the time, were at the height of their popularity.
