IVAN PETROVICH PAVLOV (1849-1936) Die Arbeit der Verdauungsdrüsen. J. F. Bergmann 1898 xii, 199 pp., illus. 24.1 cm.
The work of the Russian physiologist Pavlov in the field of the physiology of digestion led to his being awarded the Nobel prize for medicine in 1904. His demonstration of conditioned reflexes and automatic responses in dogs had consequences not only for medicine, but for political practices, the sociological sciences, and psychology as well. This first edition in German is the first translation of this classic work on the digestive glands, published in Russia the year before.
