The Development of Medicine in a Catalogue of Historic Books

Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 2101

SALOMON EBERHARD HENSCHEN (1847-1930) Klinische und anatomische Beiträge zur Pathologie des Gehirns. Selbstverlag des Verfassers 1890-1922 Illus. 31.6 cm.

Shortly after being appointed professor of medicine at Upsala, Henschen abandoned his early work on internal medicine and became absorbed in the study of neurological disorders. Dealing only with the gross anatomy of the brain, Henschen compiled an impressive array of observations including the discovery of the cortical visual center and important data on the visual, auditory, gustatory and olfactory pathways, shedding new light on aphasia and other brain disorders. Most of his writings may be found in this extensive treatise on which Henschen labored throughout his life.
