Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 2100

PAUL EMIL FLECHSIG (1847-1929) Die Leitungsbahnen im Gehirn und Rückenmark des Menschen auf Grund entwickelungsgeschichtlicher Untersuchungen. Verlag von Wilhelm Engelmann 1876 xvi, 382 pp., 20 plates (part col.). 25.8 cm.

Flechsig recognized that the understanding of the nervous system could be enhanced through the study of myelogenesis. This treatise on the pyramidal and dorsal spinocerebellar tract (Flechsig's tract) is one of the earliest and most important works on the subject. It led to Flechsig's study of nerve development in the cerebral hemispheres and the charting of the fields of the cerebral cortex. He also made notable contributions in experimental psychology and neuropathology. Most of his work was done while at the Institute of Physiology at Leipzig and the University of Leipzig.
