Celsus' work has gone through many editions, translations, expansions, and adaptations since its first appearance in print in Florence in 1478. This is the first Aldine edition published by the well-known Manuzio family of printers who issued many works of the classical Greek and Roman authors and were responsible for introducing small pocket editions which became known as "Aldines." Quintus Serenus Sammonicus' Liber de medicina et ipsa castigatiss[ima] (see No. 44) is also included in this edition.
