The present book is a classic on immunity in infectious diseases and one of Mechnikov's best works. In it he summarized the results of over twenty years of research. It was in this work that he fully formulated his doctrine of immunity, discussed the controversies and objections to his theories, and presented the ideas of other scientists on the subject.
