Although well known as one of the most influential thinkers of his day and as a pioneer of the new psychology in America, William James was schooled as a physician and taught anatomy and physiology at Harvard from 1872 to 1880 before transferring to the Department of Psychology and Philosophy where he remained until 1907. In this brilliant and epoch-making work, James set for the basis of his philosophy "a world of pure experience."
