Complete Record - Heirs of Hippocrates No. 2038

TIMOTHY RICHARDS LEWIS (1841-1886) On a haematozoon in human blood. Office of "Indian Annals of Medical Science" 1874 53 pp., illus. 20.2 cm.

Lewis, a staff surgeon on special duty with the Sanitary Commissioner of the Indian government, first published his findings in the Annual report of the Sanitary Commission of India in 1871. He performed a number of studies on nematode parasites of the order Filarioidae which may cause such diseases as chyluria and elephantiasis. Several interesting case histories reveal important clinical conditions present when the host harbors the organisms. Three illustrations depict the appearance of the parasites under the microscope. The present work is the first separate edition of Lewis' work and contains several additions. This presentation copy was inscribed by the author to the great helminthologist, Cobbold (see No. 1932).
