Unlike other schools, which investigated and stressed the acts or functions of consciousness, Wundt's psychology dealt with the observable and the conscious mind, thus earning the label of the "content school." His two-volume classic on physiological psychology is one of the most important works of its kind. The publication of the first edition in 1874 led to Wundt's call to Zurich later that year.
