Born in Paris and educated in Italy and Germany, Jeançon graduated from the Royal College of Surgeon in Edinburgh in 1854. He immigrated to America and served in the Civil War as a surgeon. In 1874 he became the chair of Physiology and chemistry at the Eclectic Medical Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is one of several anatomical atlases he published during his time at the Institute.
