The present work was first published in London and New York in 1887 (see No. 1948) with a German edition appearing the next year. Subsequent editions were published in 1899 and 1909. This work, a reprint of the 1909 edition, is comprehensive in scope and contains information regarding the discoveries of Schaudinn as well as a brief comment on the Wassermann test (see No. 2253).
