THEODORE GEORGE WORMLEY (1826-1897) Micro-chemistry of poisons. J. B. Lippincott 1885 2nd ed. 784 pp., 16 plates (front.), illus., fold. table. 23.1 cm.

A physician as well as an attorney, Wormley was awarded a medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Medicine in 1849. He moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1850 where he became professor of toxicology at the Starling Medical College. In 1877 he was elected to the chair of chemistry and toxicology at the University of Pennsylvania and returned to Philadelphia for the remainder of his career. The present work was first published at Philadelphia in 1867 and achieved a great reputation because of Wormley's dedication to accuracy and scholarship. This second edition has been greatly enlarged with new material, case histories, and several new illustrations. The work is appropriately dedicated to his wife who skillfully executed all of the book's steel engravings.
